Following the successful completion of the three-part Gregorian Chant Course earlier this year, participants and others with an interest in Gregorian Chant are warmly invited to take part in a full day of chant singing on Saturday 6 June.

This special one-day event offers the opportunity to sing Gregorian Chant in both parish and monastic settings, with practical, hands-on coaching and the chance to sing together as a large group. Attendance at either part of the day, or both, is welcome.


Charges for the whole day (to help cover costs)

  • Former Course Participants:

    • Adults: £5

    • Children: £2.50

  • Newcomers:

    • Adults: £10

    • Children: £5


This day is intended both as a continuation for those who attended the Portsmouth Chant Course and as a welcoming opportunity for new singers who wish to experience Gregorian Chant in a supportive and prayerful setting.





Morning: St Joseph’s Church, Portsmouth

The morning focuses on singing chant for Mass.

  • 08:45 – Practice for Mass, led by Dominic Bevan

  • 10:00Mass

  • 11:30 – Depart St Joseph’s Church and travel independently to the Isle of Wight ferry




Travel to the Isle of Wight

Participants make their own way to Quarr Abbey.
Indicative ferry options from Portsmouth include:

  • 12:00–12:45

  • 12:40–13:25




Afternoon & Evening: Quarr Abbey, Isle of Wight

On arrival at Quarr Abbey there is time to explore the Abbey Church, Visitors’ Centre, Farm Shop and Tea Shop.

  • From 13:00 – Arrival at Quarr Abbey (independently)

  • 14:30 – Welcome at Quarr Abbey

The afternoon will be led by Abbot Xavier Perrin OSB, who will introduce psalmody and guide participants in the preparation of the Office of Vespers.

The day concludes with the group singing Saturday Evening Vespers together in Quarr Abbey Church.

  • 18:20-19:05 – Ferry option from Fishbourne to Portsmouth
